IMPROVING PEER COMMUNICATIONS AND CROSS-FUNCTIONAL TEAM EFFECTIVENESS.
Challenge: Head of Global Technology needed to improve his peer-to-peer relationship and communication to deliver on-time and successful implementation of new localization system and processes. Being the senior technology leader working with the new executive, he faced frustration due to lack of focus and goal prioritization from his peer which put the 50-person cross functional team engagement and project delivery in jeopardy.
Discovery: He learned to move from “I’ll just do it myself” and reluctance to address the deteriorating relationship and situation to a more collaborative, mentor approach with his peer. He identified his impatience, sense of urgency, along with his concern about this executive’s lack of experience, which allowed him to gain new perspectives of empathy and change in approach.
Outcome: These discoveries led to open and frequent discussions, goal alignment and, ultimately, successful system implementation.
